Prize Pooches: Breeds Westminster Needs

Posted on

The famed Westminster Kennel Club has added six new breeds to its competition this year, which is right around the corner.  That’s a good start, but they haven’t gone nearly far enough. Here are some breeds that would spice things up immeasurably.

JERSEY HORNDOGS

FIST-POUND PUPPIES

LI’L BOW WOWS

BRAZILIAN HAIRLESS

NEW ENGLAND SHEEPISHDOGS

HUCKLEBERRY HOUNDS

AFGHAN WHIGS

CONNECTICUT WINTRY MIXES

PUG UGLIES

BEARDED BELGIANS

UNSOBERMEN PINSCHERS

WORCESTERSHIRE POINTERS

BLUE SHARPIES

HUMONGOUS SCHNAUZERS

HAVANESE HOTDOGS

Now, those are some cool canines. Feel free to add to the List!

  1. I want a humongous schnauzer!

I saw a basset hound/golden retriever mix once. He looked like a golden exactly, but had the long body and stubby legs of a basset. I have no idea what to call it!

  2. Quick story: when I lived in Manhattan, I would take my dog to the dog park. All the hotsy totsy ladies (we called them the HTLs) would crow about how “Gorrrjuss” he was, and ask, “what is he, a spaniel?
“No,” I’d say, dead-pan flat. “He’s an Israeli Schnitzelhound.”
    “A what?”
“An Israeli Schnitzelhound. There aren’t that many of them in this country, but those of us who are lucky enough to own one have been lobbying the AKC quite vigorously for recognition.”
About 1 in 20 of the HTLs would laugh. The rest didn’t get it.
